One of the most important treatments in veterinary care is pain management, and the most common cause of chronic pain is joint disease. We all want to keep our pets happy and comfortable as they get older, so managing any pain they may have is critical. There are medications to help with that, but anyone who has suffered a joint injury knows that physical rehabilitation (physical therapy in humans) is just as or even more important. Starting with an initial assessment, a customized exercise plan for your pet is then created to gently start increasing their range of motion and strength. We can help you manage that plan and monitor progress. Physical rehab significantly improves your pet’s quality and length of life by easing their pain and improving their mobility and independence!
As well, the Kincardine Veterinary Services team can provide laser therapy for pain and inflammation management. It can be used in conjunction with medications and physical rehabilitation. How does it work? A hand piece is gently pressed against or passed above the affected area of the patient. This sends therapeutic light waves into the cells of the treated tissue, triggering something called ‘photobiomodulation.’ Photobiomodulation stimulates electrons in the cell, increases metabolism, and promotes the cell to grow and regenerate faster. Think of it like a plant absorbing light from the sun to energize their cells!
We have seen tremendous success with with both of these therapies in our patients! Any patient with orthopedic disease will benefit from these therapies.
