Are You Travelling to the United States With Your Dog? Here’s What you Need to Know!

Beginning August 1st 2024 new rules and regulations will be implemented in regards dogs entering the United States of America. This is being done to reduce the risk of a rabies reintroduction in the US.  There are many intricate and important details regarding the regulations when traveling with your pet and multiple documents and records are required for travel, each dog will be unique so read carefully.

Note this applies to dogs only, cats are not affected by these new regulations.

Requirements for all Dogs:

  • Must appear healthy on arrival.
  • Must have a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner to identify them
  • Certification of Rabies Vaccination.
  • Completion of the CDC dog import form.
  • Additional documentation varies depending on if your dog has been within a country with high risk of dog rabies within 6 months before entering the US.
